Republican Landslide in November?

Republican Landslide in November?

Postby Rational mad man on Thu Sep 11, 2008 10:58 pm

This is a copy of a post Thread I started on PC. Id like to hear The Hall's view on this.

The first time I heard Bush speak in favor of more exploration I began to imagine a concept. When oil prices began a massive slide afterwards, that concept became a word. Ever since I first heard of the republican congress's guerilla oil debates and thought, "this reminds me of 94", the same wild, inconcievable, and to be frank almost impossible word has been echoing in the shadows of my mind. When the republicans kept the ressistance going, for day after day, the word sounded louder. When the "celebrity ad" appeared, more voices contributed to the chorus behind my eyes. When Mccain picked palin, the chorus grew to a choir. Whn Obama and the democrats did virtualy everything wrong in response to Mccains pick the choir became a legion. And now I can no longer keep this word in. I cant help but raise its impossible name.

The word is "landslide"

As in republican.

As in the exact reverse of 2006.

Have the voices in my head driven me mad?

In other words, Is it possible that the combination of the popularity of the republicans "Drill here, Drill Now" position, coupled with Mccains strategic genius in this campaign; could deliver the Republicans not only the White House, but perhaps even one or both houses of Congress? Becuase I think we could potentially see an electoral result as shocking as either 94, or 06, perhaps even more so. I think many dems who feel comforted by the parties much stronger "generic popularity" will be blindsided by issues they dont think are true "wedges". I think energy policy is one, I think the "red state feminism" of Governor Palin is another.

Or am I simply nuts?

You know at this point I wouldn't rule it out. I also wouldn't rule out total democratic victory. I got my ear to the ground and the only thing I know is I don't know squat about what will happen in November.

Sh-h-h-h. You may well be right but let's keep it quiet. I want this to be a total blindside surprise to the Democrats. A smug victory strut is better in front a thoroughly whipped and demoralized opponent.

I predicted an easy vitory for McCain from the start, I stand by that. Will it carry over to the congress? Maybe. A one-seat majority in the senate where Lieberman is the tie-breaker isn't exactly what I'd call Democrat-dominated anyway...

What I really hope to see is Ron Paul Republicans, Jim Webb Democrats, and at least one Libertarian or Constitution party candidate winning seats in congress. I doubt I will, but it would please me mightily.

I don't know about landslide, but I think we stand a good chance to take the WH (especially if Obama keeps putting his foot in his mouth) and congress. On the congress front, I think the people who voted in the Dems have been utterly disappointed that we still have a 2 front war and those windbags haven't had the balls to vote away the funding for Iraq. I'm certainy not saying that they should, but if that's what you say you're gonna do, then fuckin' do it especially when that's what got you elected.

Just as a bit of historical reference, this is when those whispers first started .... whispering.

There is no way there will be a Republican landslide. Everyone will run against Bush... the congress and the senate are screwed. McCain can win though. He's harder to pin to Bush.

Obama has his charisma and charm. For him it is a gift and he can use it well. Joe Biden on the other hand is a mean-spirited shitweasel and the original "empty suit". Your hatred of Joe Biden marks you as a man of very discerning perspicacity.

The internal dynamics and activity level going on within Keith Olbermann's head don't bode well for it to ever explode. But it may deflate with fart-like fizzle. I could live with that.

I'm pissed because I started out not liking McCain, then he picked Palin and I watched the RNC. Now I think he is exceptional and I love Palin. I don't dislike Obama as much as most on the Hall, but I really hate Joe Biden.

Obama IS a great speaker........but this does not qualify him to be our Commander and Chief.
